FAQ

What happens to my data if I delete the app?
If you are not using sync, your data is stored only on your device, so deleting the app deletes it as well. Please create an encrypted backup beforehand. If you had iCloud sync turned on, your data remains in iCloud: reinstall the app and turn sync back on to get it back.
I forgot my app lock code (the 4-digit number).
The app lock is unlocked with the 4-digit number you set and your device biometrics (Face ID / fingerprint). Because of the zero-knowledge design, the developer cannot look up or recover this number. Deleting and reinstalling the app removes the lock, but it also erases the data on your device. If iCloud sync was on, your data returns after reinstalling and syncing; if you have an encrypted backup, you can restore from it.
I forgot the passphrase for my encrypted backup.
Encrypted backups are protected by the passphrase you chose when you created the backup (this is different from the 4-digit app lock code). The passphrase is not stored inside the backup file, nor anywhere on the developer side, so if you lose it that file cannot be opened. Please keep it somewhere safe.
Why do I see ads?
The free plan shows non-personalized ads (Google AdMob). Upgrading to Premium removes ads.
Is iCloud sync available on Android?
No. Device-to-device sync is available on iOS via iCloud only. On Android, please use encrypted backup to migrate your data.
Will my data be deleted if I cancel Premium?
No. Even after you cancel or Premium expires, you can always view and delete your registered data and create encrypted backups (CSV export is a Premium feature).

Backup and restore

Backups are handled from Settings → Data.

  1. Create: go to Settings → Data → “Encrypted backup (recommended)” and choose a passphrase. A .passubly file encrypted with that passphrase is created.
  2. Where to save: you can save the file anywhere (local storage, or a cloud drive such as iCloud Drive). Since the file itself is encrypted, the storage location does not matter. If you are preparing for a device change, saving to a cloud drive is recommended.
  3. Restore: go to Settings → Data → “Import encrypted backup”, choose the file, and enter the passphrase you set when creating it.

Note: if you forget the passphrase, the backup cannot be opened (not even by the developer). Please keep it in a safe place.

Switching devices / migrating from other apps

Moving from passubly to passubly (new device)

  1. On your old device, go to Settings → Data → “Encrypted backup (recommended)” and create a backup. Saving it to a cloud drive such as iCloud Drive lets you open it directly from the new device.
  2. Install passubly on the new device.
  3. On the new device, go to Settings → Data → “Import encrypted backup”, then select the file from step 1 and enter its passphrase.
  4. Between two iOS devices, you can also enable iCloud sync (Premium) for automatic syncing.

Migrating from another password manager

  1. In your current app (Chrome, Firefox, Bitwarden, etc.), use its CSV export feature to export your data.
  2. In passubly, go to Settings → Data → “Import from CSV” and select the CSV file.
  3. Review the imported items and complete the import.
  4. After migrating, we recommend securely deleting the exported CSV file (CSV files are not encrypted).

Deleting your data (entirely within the app)

All data deletion happens inside the app. There is no need to request deletion from the developer — we do not hold your data in the first place.

  1. To delete a single item: open its detail screen and select “Delete”. Deleted items remain in Trash for 30 days and can be restored at any time during that period.
  2. To permanently delete from Trash: go to Settings → Trash, select the item, and delete it permanently. Items older than 30 days are permanently deleted automatically.
  3. To delete everything: uninstalling the app removes all data stored on your device.
